UCF's Student Government Association is testing out a new hybrid ticket retrieval system starting next week for this year's Universal Knights event.
Students will now have the choice of waiting for tickets in person or preordering them online — both free of charge.
Former SGA Student Body President Josh Boloña said ticket distribution will begin March 18, and 11,700 tickets will be distributed during a two-week period ending March 29.
The Universal Knights event will take place at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure on April 7. It will run from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., and the park will only be open to UCF students during these hours.
Last year, SGA tested out online-only ticket distribution for the first time. However, the site crashed in the middle of the ticket reservation process.
SGA director of unity, Valentina Durango, said that the new ticket system is designed to help shorten pick-up lines and to provide an online option for students who don't want to wait in person.
"A lot of students were upset [with the in-person retrieval] because it was only particular days, and they were waiting long hours," Durango said.
Boloña said that offering a smaller portion of tickets online in two waves should help solve this problem the second time around.
"We're aware of the notes of concern that were put up last year," Boloña said. "The amount we're distributing at a time [this year] in the online ticket system is much, much smaller."
Online ticket preordering will take place:
- Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m.
An access link will be sent to all students via their Knights email a few days in advance, Durango said.
The preordered online tickets serve as vouchers, which students can then bring to one of the in-person distribution days. Students must pick up their tickets the week they preorder them. They will be directed to an express lane and won't have to wait in the normal ticket line.
In-person ticket distribution will take place:
- Tuesday, March 19 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. (CFE Arena)
- Wednesday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (CFE Arena)
- Thursday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Live Oak Ballroom)
- Friday, March 29 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Live Oak Ballroom)
Students without vouchers must wait in line during one of the in-person distribution days. Once the allotment runs out, any remaining students in line will not receive tickets.
All students will need to present their UCF IDs to pick up tickets. Additional guest tickets are $58 plus tax and must be purchased at the park's ticket office between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. the day of the event.
SGA will provide transportation for students to and from the park, but details on transportation are still in the works, according to an email sent out by SGA representatives to students on March 1.
Students who choose to drive to the park will be given a free printable parking pass.
