Proyecto Muraleando, an after-school program that allows students to learn various styles of art in Havana, offers a chance to learn from professional artists.
Local artists, Manuel Diaz Baldrich and Ernesto Quirch Paz started the project on January 21, 2001.
The students who go to Proyecto Muraleando engage in many different types of workshops.
Elizabeth Gamona Mena, a graphic design graduate from the University of Havana, said the workshops include painting, music, folk dance, movie making, theatre, and learning different languages. They can experience anything from Cuban traditional dances to making art made of plastic.
In the language workshops, students can learn English, French, and Italian. In other workshops they can make movies and paint ceramics with their teachers.
Gamona Mena said being a part of Proyecto Muraleando makes her happy.
“I could not have asked for nothing better. What you see here are people down to earth, they feel good helping others, and they do everything to see others happy,” said Gamona Mena.
